Traditional Appliqué Creates Uncommon Legacy

Uncommon Legacy, 72 x 72 inch hand applique quilt by O.V. Brantley, 2009. NFS.

I love creating scrappy applique quilts because I find them relaxing. They teach me patience and their beauty is timeless.

I learned needle turn applique by using quilt shop block of the month (BOM) programs to practice the technique. Because the BOM programs furnish the fabric and pattern, I found I could focus on perfecting my stitch rather than focusing on other design choices.

The first technique I learned was needle turn applique. Since then I have experimented with various techniques. Recently I have enjoyed the Apliquick method which uses a fused background, glue and tools to turn the applique.

The beauty of Atlanta in the fall has always been inspiring to me. The colors are vibrant and abundant. Also there is no way to go wrong with the color palette because every color imaginable can be found in nature. So today I decided to share my quilt Uncommon Legacy. When I look at this quilt, I see my beautiful hometown of Atlanta.
