Still Stitching Sensuous Secret Garden

I always travel with a hand quilting project. It may be hand quilting, hand applique or English paper piecing.

On my recent 70th birthday cruise on Carnival Vista, I traveled with my hand applique blocks for Sensuous Secret Garden. It is inspired by a pattern by Kim McLean. I love her patterns because the the applique motifs are big and bold. They work well with my big and bold African prints.

The down side of Kim’s patterns are that the quilts are BIG. They are not “quilt in a day” kind of quilts. This one will measure approximately 84 X 84 inches. When I start a large applique quilt, I know it will take me over a year to finish the top, sometimes longer. I have trained myself to enjoy the journey.

It feels like I have been working on this quilt forever, but I packed my patience! After all, when you are quilting with an ocean view, why hurry?

One day it will be finished, and I will enjoy sharing it with the world.
