I spent last week enjoying the annual AQS Quilt Show in Daytona Beach, Florida. Since I was treating it as a vacation, I opted not to take any classes, but there was plenty to see, do and learn.
First, the quilts at an AQS show offer the most exquisite traditional quilt workmanship in the industry. There were many beautiful quilts. Visit their website to see all of the winners. Eyes of theForest by Margaret Solomon Gunn won Best of Show and a $10,000 prize.
I love shopping the vendor booths for the latest great gadget that supposedly will make my quilt life easier. On this trip, I stuck with my tried and true suppliers: Accuquilt dies, Superior Thread, and lots of fat quarters. I also added to my African fabric collection.
The highlight of my shopping spree was a new thimble. I treated myself to a new expensive thimble by Thimbles For You because it makes me happy to wear a beautiful thimble when I am hand quilting. My new one has a garnet stone in it.😍
Home away from home was the Daytona Beach Hilton which is located right on the beach and across the street from Ocean Center where the quilt show was held. Even though it was still a little chilly I enjoyed long walks on the beach.
Attending the AQS Quilt Show was a great way to enjoy some down time and some beautiful quilts. If you are a quilt perfectionist, I recommend a visit to an AQS Quilt show. They are held in various locations each year, including Paducah, KY.
