My quilt Friendship in Black and White was gifted to Katherine Jentleson, quilt curator at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. I often give my quilts to people to celebrate major accomplishments in their lives if I know they are also quilt lovers.🥰
Katie is a trailblazer in helping art lovers view quilts as abstract art. She has worked hard to learn as much about African American quilters and their quilts as possible, which includes attending the Atlanta Quilt Festival each year.
Her recently curated exhibit Patterns in Abstraction: Black Quilts in the Permanent Collection of the High was a great success. More importantly, she continues to acquire quilts created by African American quilters for the High Museum’s permanent collection.

I created this quilt as a nod to my childhood in segregated Arkansas. Years later, I delight in the way the world has changed during my lifetime, allowing me to choose friends without boundaries. I knew this quilt would end up with a special person, and so it has.
