The Fragility of Africa is the 11th quilt in what has turned into my “About Africa” series. First I made “The Joys of Africa”. I liked it so much I made “The Beauty of Africa, “The Drum Beat of Africa”, “The Adventures of Africa”, “The Romance of Africa”, “The Hope of Africa,” “The Heart of Africa,” “The Wonders of Africa”, “The Abundance of Africa,” “The Happiness of Africa”, and now “The Fragility of Africa.“ I have so much African fabric, I may never stop!
Like the other quilts in the series, The Fragility of Africa is a quilted wallhanging composed of a wide variety of African fabrics. The majority of the fabrics in this quilt are small prints from South Africa known as Shweshwe. It measures 36 x 42 inches.
I pieced and quilted it on my Janome sewing machine with variegated thread.
The back of the quilt features a yellow and orange African motif. There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt.
After the quilt was bound and labeled, I signed it on the front and added a charm that reads “Made with Love.”
This quilt is one-of-a-kind.
