Introducing Sizzling Soulful Sunset

Sizzling Soulful Sunset was inspired by the beautiful flower panel by Stephanie Brandenburg. The vibrant colors in the flower made me think about a vibrant sunset and dictated the color scheme of the quilt.

The flower is complemented by an array of eclectic fabrics, both domestic and African, making the quilt measure 40 X 42 inches. The last border is a domestic fabric, but it gives the quilt a tribal, earthy feel.

The word “sunset” is appliqued to the quilt to carry out the theme of the quilt. I wrote the words in my cursive handwriting “My soul sizzles with creativity . . .” on the bottom of the quilt.

After the quilt was machine quilted by Maxine Moore I added black crystals to the center of the flower to add sparkle and dimension to the quilt.

The fabric on the back of the quilt is a blue and brown African print. I added a hanging sleeve for easy display and a label that documents the quilt.

I signed and dated Sizzling Soulful Sunset on the front and added a charm that says “only in the darkness can you see the stars.” This quilt is one-of-a-kind.

“My soul sizzles with creativity. . .
