My new quilt Floating Flowers continues my exploration of panels, batiks and African fabrics. Floating Flowers measures 38 X 36 inches and starts with a printed panel of flowers created by Stephanie Brandenburg. To me the flowers look like they are floating in the wind so I named the quilt Floating Flowers.

I paired the panel with domestic fabrics and batiks from Malaysia purchased stateside from Turtle Hand batiks. The quilt ends with a bold African print that echoes the colors of the flowers.

I lovingly quilted Floating Flowers by hand including both regular stitches and big stitches using Perle cotton. After it was quilted, I embellished Floating Flowers with crystals and buttons.

The fabric on the back is a yellow print that reminds of French cottage decor. There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt.

I signed it on the front and added a charm that says “Dream”. Who wouldn’t dream if they were floating in the wind without a care in the world?
