Introducing Choose Happy #1

When I am very busy with other things, (such as the Atlanta Quilt Festival) I turn to simple affirmation quilts to keep me in the studio. These are simple quilts that can be created without too much thought or planning. Some people call these journal quilts, but I think of them as affirmation quilts.

Choose Happy #1 is the beginning of a new series of affirmation quilts. There are six quilts in the series. Each quilt has a center panel with a positive message. Unfortunately I did not make a note of the creator of the panel before I cut it up.

Choose Happy #1 reminds us to “Start each day with a grateful heart.” I deeply believe that the key to happiness is gratitude. I practice gratitude each day to keep me grounded. I write in my gratitude journal each day, and I try to keep my focus on being grateful for all that I have rather than the things I wish I had.

The quilt measures 27 X 28 inches. The dominant colors are pink and green which is not a normal color palette for me. I pieced and quilted Choose Happy #1 on my Janome sewing machine. After it was quilted, I embellished Choose Happy #1 with painted buttons and charms.

The back of the quilt is a green African print. I added a hanging sleeve for easy display and a label that documents the quilt. I love the rainbow binding that ends the quilt on a happy note.

I signed and dated the quilt on the front and added a charm that says “Choose Happy.”

Choose Happy #1 is one-of-a-kind as are you. Life is about choices. Choose wisely.
