It was my great pleasure to welcome visitors to the inaugural lecture of the Atlanta Quilt Festival’s Marva Swanson Lecture Series. Fiber artist Dawn Williams Boyd presented her lecture “From the Atlanta Quilt Festival to the Met.”
As the title implies, Dawn began exhibiting her cloth paintings at the Atlanta Quilt Festival during the early years of the Festival. Now she is represented by a gallery in New York, and her work is in the permanent collection of many museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Dawn chronicled her artistic journey while offering tips and advice to aspiring artists. The lecture was fun, informative and inspiring. If you missed it, you missed a treat.
At the close of the lecture, I shared with the audience that I was lucky enough to have purchased one of Dawn’s early works. The piece is named Winter (2006), and it is part of her “The Things That Kids Do” series. I thought you might want to take a peak.
