Evora’s Earth - A Tribute to My Mom

Evora’s Earth, a 70x80 inch traditional row by row quilt, by O.V. Brantley, 2001. A tribute to my Mom and my hometown Crossett, Arkansas.

The most influential person in my life was my mother Evora Hicks. Every day of my life I try to be like her. She was what I call ”the total package.” She was smart, pretty and kind.

She taught me to be a reader and a public speaker by relentlessly practicing my church speeches with me.

She taught me the value of being a beautiful queen. She was renowned for her spectacular church hats and never left home without looking her best.

She taught me the value of being kind by sending me to deliver a plate of food for an older person in our community or an unexpected Christmas gift.

So when I celebrate Women’s History Month, first I celebrate my Mom.
