Whether to wash your fabric before you start a quilt is an age old debate. Sadly I do not. This so not because it may not be a good idea. It is so because I am lazy.
However, there is one circumstance where I have been told that I must put aside my lazy ways. While shopping at Quiltfest Greenville, I purchased shweshwe fabric. The shop owner insisted that I must wash it first, and she included washing instructions. In short, she advised to wash it in hot water using a dye catcher such as Color Catcher or Synthrapol.
So for this very special fabric from South Africa, I am going to set aside my lazy ways and wash before I quilt.
