Celebrating the Life of Quilt Historian Cuesta Benberry

I was honored to welcome quilt lovers to Lynette Warren’s lecture Clelebrating the Life of Quilt Historian Cuesta Benberry at the Atlanta Quilt Festival. The lecture was part of the inaugural season of the Marva Swanson Lecture Series.

Cuesta Benberry was a pioneer in documenting the activities of African American quilters, and Lynette shared her life with humor and deep historical knowledge.

The lecture was presented in the beautiful gallery of the Southwest Arts Center where the final installment of the John Lewis trilogy is on display. The exhibit is entitled Getting into MY Good Trouble - Continuing the Legacy of Congressman John Lewis, and it will be on display until September 8th.

A reception followed as attendees lingered to continue to discuss aspects of the lecture. It was a good day.

The Atlanta Quilt Festival has been awesome this year, so much to learn and see. Two of my books to check out: And Still We Rise and We Are the Story by Carolyn Mazloomi.
