Racism — the White Elephant in the Room #1 is part of the traveling exhibit of my solo exhibit of red and white quilts entitled Long Time Coming: A Retrospective of O.V. Brantley’s Red and White Quilts. The exhibit premiered in Atlanta at the Emma Darnell Aviation Museum and Conference Center November 19, 2022 and will be featured at the 2023 International Quilt Festival in Houston November 1 - 5, 2023. The original quilt is currently not for sale.
This print is a digital copy of an original quilt that was inspired by an old saying “the elephant in the room”. The saying means there is an obvious problem but no one wants to talk about it. As the country erupted into social justice consciousness last year, I was inspired to make this quilt because in my mind, the elephant in the room is racism (intentional or unintentional) — the obvious problem that no one likes to talk about.
The unframed, matted archival pigment print (AKA Giclee) is printed on 100% cotton rag museum quality paper. Giclee prints are the state-of-the-art museum quality print medium today. The matted print is 16 X 16 inches and is delivered in a clear plastic bag.
I signed the print is on the front. Limited quantities are offered for $300 in my studio store.
