Colored Girl Lawyer Rocks! is my way of documenting my legal career. After graduating from Vanderbilt Law School, I enjoyed a high profile, fulfilling legal career in Atlanta, GA. I came a long way from growing up in a small segregated town in Arkansas to the pinnacle of my local legal profession. It took a long time for me to realize I was the best at my job. In short, “Colored Girl Lawyer Rocks!” is my personal affirmation.
The quilt is mostly white because that is the environment in which I found myself in law school and in the practice of law. I added an African floral border to embrace my feminimity in a man’s world. The scales of justice are an obvious choice for such a quilt, and the words embrace the message.
The quilt measures 56 X 68 inches. There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt. I signed it on the front and added a charm that says “Success, Money, Happiness.”
Colored Girl Lawyer Rocks! is part of the traveling exhibit of O.V. Brantley’s solo exhibit of her red and white quilts entitled “Long Time Coming: A Retrospective of O.V. Brantley’s Red and White Quilts”. The exhibit premiered in Atlanta, GA November 19, 2022 and was featured at the 2023 International Quilt Festival in Houston November 1-5. The original quilt is currently not for sale.
The unframed archival pigment print (AKA Giclee) is printed on 100% cotton rag museum quality paper and framed with a white mat. Giclee prints are the state-of-the-art museum quality print medium today. The size of the matted print is 16 X 20 inches.
I signed the print on the front. It will be shipped with care and delivered in a clear plastic bag ready for framing.
