A Visit With A Star Among Stars

Updated: 16 minutes ago

Me with a group of students.

The High Museum of Art in Atlanta has been exhibiting my quilt A Star Among Stars since June in its Patterns in Abstraction exhibit. Now that only a few weeks remain on her run at the museum, I decided it was time to pay her a visit to see if she was enjoying her flirt with fame. She is.

When I arrived, several people were admiring her, making it difficult to capture a solo shot, but I managed. I must admit I love where she is hanging. She appears very regal to me (and you can’t miss her). It always makes me happy to share my quilts in any setting especially with young people. I took a picture with a group of students who were shocked when I revealed I was the quiltmaker.

After saying goodbye to A Star Among Stars, I viewed the Giants exhibit. It is a very large exhibit in size and scope and represents a small part of the art collected by Alecia Keys. I enjoyed thinking about the serendipity of life. I could never have imagined that Alicia Keys and I would share a building filled with our art. There is a lot to see in the Giants exhibit, and it is definitely worthy of your time.

You Shouldn’t Be the Prisoner of Your Own Ideas (Le Witt) by Hank Willis Thomas, 2017;

I loved the way Ms. Keys expressed the message of the exhibit. We should all aspire to be giants. My favorite piece in the exhibit was a fiber art piece made from decommissioned prison uniforms. A few of my other favorites are included in the gallery below.

After saying goodbye-bye for now to A Star Among Stars  (the exhibit closes January 5, 2025 which gives me plenty of time to visit again), I glanced back at her and knew she was enjoying being a giant.

It was a good day.🥰

P.S. A Star Among Stars prints, mugs and water bottles are available in my store.

A few favorites from the Giants exhibit.
