A Day of Creative Community Crafts at the Atlanta Quilt Festival

Creative Community Crafts Day at the Atlanta Quilt Festival was full of activity, learning and joy. One of the main events was the creation of a charity quilt from start to finish. Brenda Shelby mounted the quilt on a traditional quilt frame and taught the attendees how to tie the quilt to hold the quilt sandwich together rather than using traditional quilting methods.

Meanwhile, down the hall, quilters learned to make fabric origami butterflies from Aleathia Chisolm, fabric postcards from Jackie Jackson-Harvey and African fabric wreaths from Pat Batine. I was happy to cut and share my African fabric for the wreath class since my other responsibilities at the Festival did not allow me to teach the class as planned. Thank you Pat for stepping in to help.🙏🏾 My Accuquilt GO Cutter made the cutting easy.

Many quilters took a break from learning new fiber techniques to play Quilt Bingo which was hosted by Diane Roney. Of course there were lots of prizes thanks to Atlanta Quilt Festival’s generous sponsors.

Quilters left exhausted but happy about all they learned in a single day! Creative Community Crafting Day was the finale for Atlanta Quilt Festival events at the Southwest Arts Center, our beautiful venue, and the event closed out the 2024 activities with a bang!💥

Toni Presha shared her African fiber wreath she started at Creative Community Crafts Day and finished at home. She hung it on her studio door. Gorgeous!

The final event of the 2024 Festival will be the announcement of the Best of Show winner at the High Museum of Art September 7th at 2 p.m. in collaboration with the ongoing Patterns in Abstraction exhibit. I will participate on a panel with Katherine Jentleson, the Curator of the exhibit and Peggy Martin, past president of the Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild during the event. See you there!
